Drake just made a statement where he defended his friend and competitor The Weeknd.
As you may remember The Weeknd criticized the Grammy Awards yesterday.
The Weeknd said that he must have earned at least one Grammy for After Hours, which debut on Billboard 200 and stayed over a month. He was also expecting one other Grammy for his Blinding Lights song which stayed over 4 weeks on Billboard Hot 100 chart.
30 Year old superstar was even nominated for 2020 ARIA Awards, but he was not elected for 2021 Grammy Awards nomination.
The Weeknd, shared his thoughts via Twitter saying “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”

After The Weeknd’s tweet, Drake sided up with Canadian singer via his Instagram. He wrote “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after.”
Also he added “It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways.”
“The other day I said The Weeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way,” he continued. “This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”
Drake was not the only one who supported The Weeknd! Also, Kid Cudi, Charlie Puth, Tinashe and Akon shared their support.
Billboard reach out to the Academy’s CEO and asked about his opinions. Harvy Mason Jr. said “
“I can imagine what he’s feeling,” he added, “but I don’t pretend to put myself on the level of The Weeknd as one of the biggest artists in our industry. But I can imagine that he’s disappointed.”
